The Swedish American Museum was a great!
Swedish American Museum 📍5211 N. Clark St., Chicago IL The Best Parts: ✔️The third floor is home to the Brunk Children’s Museum. Kids can play while imagining they’re rowing on a Viking ship, living in a stuga, or doing chores on a Swedish-American farm. ✔️The second floor focuses on Swedish immigrants, but a lot can be learned and discussed about immigration and family histories more generally. ✔️The museum is small, so not too overwhelming for young kids or those with sensory needs. The staff and volunteers we interacted with were EXCEPTIONALLY kind and welcoming (even towards a young, screaming baby who shall remain nameless) Check out their website for upcoming events. They have a lot of really cool family and community programming! Make it cheap: It’s already pretty cheap ($6 for adults, $4 for kids, kids under 1 are free. $15 family admission for up to two adults and three kids). However, there’s also free admission the second Tuesday of the month. There’s a small, free parking lot for museum visitors on the corner or Ashland & Foster. Make it enjoyable: Treat yourself to coffee and a Swedish sweet treat at Mormor’s Cafe on the first floor after your visit (prices are very reasonable) Or, stroll around Andersonville and stop in one of the many cute, independent coffee shops, restaurants, or stores. chicagoparents familyfieldtrip chicagowithkids chicagomuseum chicagomoms
