The Niagara Falls of New Jersey
If you can’t make it to Niagara Falls this summer, go visit the Paterson Great Falls and National Historic Park located in Paterson, New Jersey.
Make it a day and check out the well kept Mary Ellen Kramer Park and redeveloped Hinchcliffe Stadium only a short drive around the Great Falls.
There is something so humbling watching more than 2 billion gallons of water rush over the falls daily. The Great Falls are 77 feet high and it is the 2nd largest waterfall, by volume, east of the Mississippi River, behind only Niagara Falls.
There is a lot of history to learn here. For example, during the American Revolution, Alexander Hamilton visited the falls with George Washington. Hamilton returned in 1791 to plan America’s first industrial city — Paterson. Since then, the falls powered manufacturing plants in
Paterson and played a major role in the industrial development of New Jersey.
Both the Paterson Great Falls and Mary Ellen Kramer Park are free to visit and have free parking on both sides. Come for a walk, photo shoot, picnic, or just to enjoy the breathtaking views of the falls from both sides. You won’t regret it!
