Getting Fits off Free at the Museum at FIT
One of my favorite lowkey museums in NYC is the Museum at FIT near 28th street off the 1 train. Open from Wednesday to Sunday, it is free to look at the constantly changing exhibitions there.
As someone who appreciates intentionality, I appreciate how with each major exhibition, they do something new with the space.
The current main exhibit is FASHIONING WONDER: A CABINET OF CURIOSITIES. It is a fascinating exhibit (open until April 20th) @about how people’s fascination of collecting weird and interesting objects has an effect on designs in the past and today. Not only do they have designs from famous designers like Tom Ford and Alexander McQueen, they also showcase the inspirations whether it is stuff from nature like bugs or birds, the human body or more. In fact, there is a big bird cage at the center of the exhibit.
It was the last day of the exhibition put on by the students of the FIT so you can see what the future scholars and designers of the world put on.
You can take photos at the museum but no videos. It is open Wednesday to Sunday (noon to 8 pm on weekdays, 10 am to 5 pm on the weekend).
