Central Street in Evanston is a hidden gem! My favorite coffee shop, Backlot Coffee, is here. It's perfect: great coffee, delicious food, consistent quality, seasonal drinks, and a relaxed atmosphere. Most medium-sized coffees are around $4, and even seasonal specials are under $6 after tax. It's a much better deal than downtown Evanston's coffee shops. After a cup at Backlot Coffee, head to Hewn Bakery next door for award-winning European bread. Their sourdough and ciabatta are excellent, and their croissants make a great breakfast. Stroll down Central Street and visit Paper Source for gifts and wrapping paper. Finally, check out Foodstuffs, a local grocery store with a great selection of cheeses, smoked meats, spreads, and ready-made sandwiches. Pair their products with bread from Hewn for a perfect meal.
