1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair 🎨
An absolutely stunning exhibit!! It’s art fair season in New York and this is one of the most thoughtful and well curated fairs I have been to so far! The fair presents over 30 galleries, showcasing the work of both established and emerging artists from Africa as well as the diaspora. These are just a few of the pieces I enjoyed, and what I love most about these fairs is that you really can learn about the artist, the materials used, the inspirations behind the work from the artists themselves or the gallerists and curators! The story behind the first two images is the artist inspired by the beauty of Sudanese women and the relationship they have with their ancestors, represented by trees and nature/ embracing them and watching over them as family 🥹 The last image is a series of poems with phrases representing the poems across the installation. I adored some of them and had a good laugh at the others too :’) The art, the stories— truly phenomenal! It takes just about an hour or an hour and a half to walk through and explore/ speak to the gallerists or artists about the work you may want to learn more about! (The art is all on sale but defo above the price range I could think about at the moment..) More on galleries/art fairs to walk through in the city coming soon ..🧡
