I am so grateful that I got to participate in this Textured Paint and Sip experience from Unique Workshop, as a part of the S’more Tried and True Program. The class took place in a vibey studio above the Industry City Food Hall in Brooklyn. I was promptly and warmly greeted when I arrived and assigned my workstation. There was an awesome playlist of love songs from across the decades which matched the gorgeous aesthetic.
There was a beautiful charcuterie spread available and a mix of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. I opted for some sparkling cider which was served to me at my workstation, and I enjoyed the nibbles while I waited for the experience to officially begin.
When everyone arrived, we were asked to introduce ourselves to the room in a casual and fun way. We shared names, hometowns, and favorite bakeries (yum!). We then received some basic information and encouragement to experiment and find inspiration along the way.
There was great context setting that this wasn’t an instructional class but that we would be given free rein to use the materials provided to play around. And textured painting is very forgiving. If you don’t like your first design, you can scrape your canvas clean and start again. That turned out to be very helpful as I abandoned my first attempt and started over.
Our hosts were very available for anyone with specific questions about how to achieve the look we were aiming for and there was lots of encouragement along the way. It was such an affirming space.
Halfway through the evening, they had us play a great icebreaker game which helped us get to know the others at our table a little better. As an introvert who attended alone, it was just the right amount of connection and fun. It wasn’t overbearing or depleting. The vibes stayed high.
I’m happy with the beachy feel of my piece, and left feeling beyond satisfied. This is a great solo activity or date night adventure. Cannot recommend enough. Thanks, S’more!
