Whether you're on an extended layover or simply seeking a unique weekend adventure, consider a visit to the TWA hotel. Taking the airtrain to JFK (which costs around eight dollars one way) is part of the experience. This venture was a delightful experience that has lingered in my memory. I'm glad I took the time to explore on my own. The hotel itself is a historic site. It felt like stepping into a 1960s museum, an upscale bar, and an airport all at once. For less than $20, it's like taking a trip back in time. They offer a year-round rooftop pool, accessible with a purchased pass for an hour and a half of swimming. This feature isn't complimentary, even for hotel guests. It's heated all winter, so it's enjoyable anytime. The drinks were my main attraction. The hotel boasts a grounded airplane that functions as a bar – a permanent feature. Despite the occasional presence of children πŸ™ƒπŸ™ƒπŸ™ƒ who are oblivious to the fact it's a bar, it's quite enjoyable once you settle in with your drinks and overpriced snacks. (Yes, I paid five dollars for a pack of TWA-branded M&Ms, but it felt fitting given the airport setting.) The cocktail I enjoyed was worth the $22 price tag, considering the view, atmosphere, and the journey to get there. It's a great spot to relax during a layover, go on an exploration, or even host a low-key birthday celebration. It offers all the amenities you might need. Regarding an overnight stay, I'd consider it just for the experience of saying I've slept at the TWA. However, as a lifelong New Yorker, that's not on my immediate agenda.
