Went to opening night (or well preview night?) of this play called Bad Kreyòl at Signature Theater and enjoyed it so much!! The playwright, Dominique Morisseau, is a MacArthur genius grant recipient (more info about her in the last slide). I am determined to see lots of theater this year and this was a wonderful play to get me started ✨
🎉 I snagged $30 tickets too (normally $50-$70) - see my tips below
🥰 Loved the story - I don’t want to give too many spoilers :) but touched upon themes like intercultural dynamics, identity, family, controversial presence of NGOs in Haiti 🇭🇹
🖼️ The rotating set was beautifully made (apparently set designer worked on the Oscars!) and I loved how they wove in creole with English seamlessly. They even had a Creole language consultant work on the show!
🎭 Great acting, lots of sharp wit so just the type of humor I like (aka not slapstick). Laughed a ton!
🇭🇹 Haitian night happening Oct 15
💡 PRO TIP: Signature Theater has a program called Sig30 for $30 under 30 tickets:
