Rope climbing is for couples, not singles. (But still fun
I've been bouldering for almost a year now, but have never tried rope climbing. saw other users on S'more posting pictures of Movement LIC and realized they have a great rope climbing venue and an introductory rope climbing class on their website, so I went for a class!
Go and find out:
1️⃣ Rope climbing requires belay certification, and generally, obtaining belay certification requires a specialized course like this, where 90% of the time is spent teaching belay safety techniques.
2️⃣ Completing this class will get a one-time belay certification for use at the gym that day.
3️⃣ If you come back for rope climbing afterward, or go to another gym for rope climbing, you need firstly to get this certification, which usually means that they will quiz you on the relevant safety points to make sure you know everything.
Rope climbing basically requires two people to climb together, one person climbing, one person belaying.
If you are on your own, the automatic descending devices will be an option, but the climbing route with it are limited.
Another super big downside is that it's really scary!!!!
When someone belays for you, you can feel the resistance of the rope as you descend and feel safe. But on the autos, it only starts to tighten when you're falling extremely fast, meaning you have to jump down first to get that resistance.
Jumping down from that high really takes a lot of pressure to overcome, and I don’t like it.
But..!
Even so, I think rope climbing seems a little more fun than bouldering, maybe just because it’s new for me.
