šŖ»Small LI botanic gardenš¹
Iāve lived on Long Island my whole life, and didnāt know about Clark Botanic Garden until I moved to the North Hempstead area. Itās much smaller than something like Brooklyn or New York Botanic Gardens, or even Old Westbury, but itās big enough to spend at about an hour walking around, more if you decide to take your time or sit on one of the benches or tables
They have different flower gardens and a wooded area that feels a little like youāre walking through a forest. Thereās at least 3 ponds of different sizes that are connected by little running streams throughout. There are a few art sculptures and projects from local schoolkids too. Itās nice and cool because of all the foliage and very peaceful. Even when there are a lot of people around, everyone is relaxed and quiet. Since it is pretty small though, sometimes there is noise from outside traffic and the adjacent Oyster Bay LIRR line, but it never lasts long!
This is definitely going to become one of my little neighborhood escapes! It feels far away from everything, but by car itās really only about 8-10 min from Jericho Trnpke in Mineola and 10-15 min from Old Country Rd in Carle Place. You can be back to plenty of places to eat & shop in no time
I wouldnāt hike out of the city *just* for this, but if youāre local or already visiting western LI and looking for a little place to go, itās really nice. The flower pics are from Memorial Day weekend, and the pond pics are from winter.
Albertson LIRR stop is right outside the garden gates. Nearest bus stop is Roslyn Rd & IU Willits Rd on the N27 route (little bit of a weird stop off the side of the road in a residential area, but a short walk to the gardens)
