For aspiring anglers and families, Captree State Park is the ideal location to try your luck at crabbing and have a delightful BBQ/picnic. This park, situated on the eastern edge of Jones Island at the end of the Ocean Parkway, is Long Island's most extensive public fishing refuge/fleet. It boasts two expansive piers for fishing, along with open and chartered boats for saltwater fishing. The latter does not require a license or equipment as the boat crew supplies everything necessary for a day out on the Great South Bay or the Atlantic Ocean. However, if you decide to fish on the pier, remember to bring your own gear or stop by the fishing store. The state park charges are per vehicle and only allow the retention of adult crabs 🦀 - kindly return young crabs and pregnant ones back to the ocean for future generations 🙏🏻.
