The oldest vintage store in NYC
I've been hitting up a bunch of vintage shops these last couple of days, but the one that really stuck with me is this spot in Midtown. It's run by this sweet old lady who's been in the game for 38 years. She mentioned she chose this out-of-the-way location specifically to attract those who are truly passionate about vintage and genuinely interested in understanding it.
I had a long chat with her while browsing the store. She shared that she's yet to come across someone in New York who's both skilled in selecting vintage pieces and willing to invest in the extensive care and maintenance they require over time. So, she and her partner keep at it, steadfast in their commitment. The store doesn't have Wi-Fi, and she herself uses a simple flip phone. The only social media presence they have is maintained by her partner. Talking to her felt like being transported back to the 1900s.
There's something incredibly charming about someone doing what they love. I visited many vintage stores in New York over these two days. Not to say the others were bad, but this one made the most significant impression on me by far. It was clear how much heart went into it. Unlike other vintage stores that might just mechanically display old designer bags, this place had soul. Anyone with a thing for vintage really should check it out!
