If you’re looking for another racquet sport to try, how about Badminton? A hugely popular sport, especially in east asian communities, a game of badminton involves hitting a feathered birdy with a racquet over a net on an established court.
I went to play badminton at NYBC’s court in Flushing on a Sunday morning with my friends. It was a rough morning for me because these were early plans at 8am and it was far since I lived in Harlem and needed to get all the way to Flushing.
The gym is pretty simple with nets and courts next to each other. My one complaint is that there’s no water fountain so you either need to bring your own water or purchase one at the front desk. Courts have to be reserved, which my friends did, and each player needs to pay an entrance fee of $20 to play. Racquets are also available to rent if you do not have your own for $6.
I’m a beginner so I ended up playing casual games with my friends which was a fun way to keep improving and learning more about Badminton!
Although the court was far, this was such a fun way to start my Sunday!
