Sunset at Newtown Barge Playground
Here with another park introduction, this time I’m in Greenpoint, at the Newtown Barge Playground. It is a small park that is suitable for small team based games, like a 6v6 soccer or a kickball game. With the close proximity to water, you tend to be conservative with your strikes. If you’re on the side facing Manhattan, you’d probably struggle to focus on the game. This view definitely beats the one at Bushwich Inlet Park because you are literally at the riverfront! The downside is there are no lights and in the winter time it does have limited hours after work. Fortunately, the Brooklyn Soccer Group through the Meetup App hosts a session with their own lighting set up. The game is ran as a 8v8 soccer game (or a 6v6 when it’s less crowded) for $8. The space is rather short and has limited space for a dribble. If you favor to utilize your skills and dribble past defenders in tight spaces, this is the game for you! Even with the lighting set up, I found it challenging to spot the ball. Nevertheless, this rotational team format game does leave you plenty of time to enjoy the view. It is truly stunning!
