So I was supposed to head to The Bean in the East Village to go to their chess club but when I got there it was empty 🫥. I asked the barista and she had no idea that this was even a thing…. So instead I headed over to Nook!!! They have an ongoing chess club every Tuesday. It’s free but just make sure to sign up!! Because I was so last minute I literally just had to watch people play chess but honestly this was fun. Basically, there are multiple rounds and every round you get paired up with someone new. There’s also a livestream, so you can sit with a glass of wine and pretend to be smart. Nook is a great space, and chess clubs like these really foster a sense of community in Bushwick. I could already see people making new friends. Even though I couldn’t play I would recommend this to anyone looking to improve their chess strategy (just make sure you sign up lol). And grab a glass of their orange wine, it’s a whopping $11 but they sure do fill up that glass 🫡
