South Florida Guide
Today I went to Brothers Farmers Market in Sunrise, Florida (Broward County, west of Fort Lauderdale). I don’t know much about the operations of this place, but I wouldn’t call it a Farmers Market as someone who grew up going to farmers markets in TN. This was more of a grocery store that lacks in some staple items while offering an ample selection of exotic specialty items.
This isn’t uncommon in south Florida. I see a lot of farmers markets that aren’t a conglomeration of independent vendors at their stalls. And sometimes when you do find a farmers market with a multitude of independent vendors selling goods at different stalls, you can tell from the stickers on the produce that these vendors purchased their goods from a grocer like Publix. 🤨
If you’re in south Florida and want a true farmers market, my best recommendation is Yellow Green Farmers Market. It costs $10-30 to park there, but at least you’ll get the farmers market experience and support multiple small businesses/vendors. I have a post about it here on S’more.
But back to Brothers Farmers Market: I ended up buying a zucchini, grapes for $2, and an Inca Cola for under $6 total. I probably won’t be back unless I wanted to challenge myself to try new veggies - because idk where else near me that I’d find celery root or other non-basic produce. ...More
