if you've lived in new york long enough, you've made the mandatory road trip out to long island. as a native new yorker, i took this trip with my family right after graduating from college a couple years ago. it was a 2 hour drive from the eastern end of queens, so about 2.5 hours from manhattan. you can also take the LIRR from jamaica then a short uber, but be ready to be on the train for 3+ hours. it's gorgeous and sunny, and there are so many great beaches nearby (south edison, napeague to name a few) to cool down after your lighthouse visit. would highly recommend making it an overnight weekend trip to incorporate other great long island things to do, such as the hamptons, vineyards, fishing, seafood, etc....More
