I recently visited Din Tai Fung during their early preview period in NYC, ahead of their grand opening. Despite ongoing training, the staff greeted us with warm smiles and a positive attitude, setting a welcoming tone from the start. The expansive and impressive environment immediately caught my attention, promising a memorable dining experience.
We started our culinary journey with the sweet and sour pork baby back ribs, which were tender and flavorful, setting a high bar for the rest of the meal. The kurobuta pork Xiao Long Bao, a staple of Din Tai Fung's menu, did not disappoint with its delicate skins and savory filling.
The standout dish for me was the shrimp and kurobuta pork spicy wontons, perfectly balanced in spice and flavor. Each bite was a delight, showcasing the restaurant's commitment to quality and taste.
While the menu offered familiar favorites, like the noodles with diced beef and Szechuan peppers, which were satisfyingly spicy and aromatic, it was the innovative dishes that intrigued me the most. The chocolate and mochi Xiao Long Bao, served with a side of sea salt cream, was a delightful surprise, blending traditional flavors with a modern twist.
Overall, Din Tai Fung in NYC shows great promise. Despite being in its preview phase, the food was excellent, and I anticipate even greater refinement as they settle into their full operation. Whether you're a fan of soup dumplings or seeking a new culinary adventure, Din Tai Fung is a worthwhile addition to your dining rotation in the city....More
