Thanks @S’more City @TriedandTrue for this experience, I had a good time playing pickleball with other members of the S’more community at this Volo Sports event. The two hosts were very helpful and they provided us with paddles and balls. There were 4 pickleballs court drawn on top of a tennis court, which can be confusing at first. Space is a bit tight at both end of the courts but it’s not too bad. There was also a water fountain, restroom, lounge, and AC indoor so the amenities were 10/10 for me (it was a college after all).
If you want to sign up for other Volo Sports events, you can go to the app/website and select Pickleball (sport) + Daily (event type) to see available events. You can buy a Volo Sports subscription or buy individual event pass for $15. Volo Sports hosts leagues & events for many sports at different venues around the city so if you’re a sport enthusiast definitely check them out!

If you’re new to pickleball though I would recommend going to free courts since they are more affordable and easier to invite your friends group. Another paid alternative is Community Play events in the CityPickle app, $5/hour with paddle and balls (afaik) but they can sold out quickly.

i went to rooftop pickle ball at john jay today with a friend! they had equipment for use and a few courts going, as well as some lovely staff to help guide a bit. it was a super social environment, we played doubles with some others. it was my first time playing and it was a very friendly environment! we went from 14:00-16 and it was definitely super hot, the sun comes down on you with no breeze. pretty views help make it worth it! would definitely come play again!...More
