Those who love short fiction may already be familiar with the “Selected Shorts” podcast, but I recently learned that they hold occasional special live editions at Symphony Space on west 95th and broadway.
I attended my first one last week, which celebrated The New Yorker’s 100th anniversary by featuring renowned performers like Cynthia Nixon, Liev Schreiber, Ann Harada, and Fred Hechinger reading some of the most iconic short stories the magazine has published over the years. When I tell you I LAUGHED AND CRIED…the selected short stories were breathtaking, and the performances were moving and energizing.
I will definitely be back! The next one is on March 12 and will feature exclusively short stories about dogs. 🤣

I saw this event a couple months back and yikes I did not know who Neko Case was or any of her music, but tickets were cheap and I wanted to be in the presence of Samantha Bee so I got tickets!
I enjoyed the experience a lot! Symphony Space is just a great venue, very inclusive and community based. It was fun learning about Neko Case and her writing, her new memoir sounds so interesting, like something I would read just for the writing style! I enjoyed a lot the conversation that the Neko and Samantha Bee had on stage. Samantha Bee, bold and funny as always… I feel like I learned a lot about indie rock too. Before the show started, I spent some time at the cafe next door and did some work. So, a good location overall.
I would always recommend attending live shows, even to things you are not familiar with. Just a chance to learn and experience something new! ...More
