On a golden summer day, Snug Harbor swept me into another world—one where koi danced in still waters and every turn through the Chinese garden felt like stepping into a painting.
The breeze was soft, the silence kind, and time moved just a little slower. For a moment, NYC disappeared—and I was completely there.
If you ever need a quick trip without leaving the city, this is it.

I barely go to Staten Island, but happen to rent a car last weekend so we decided to visit this large park called Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden.
This spot offers a peaceful escape from the city's hustle and bustle with its stunning botanical gardens, historic buildings, and waterfront views.
I was surprised on how many donations helped to run this park, including TD bank for their parking 🅿️ haha
Start your visit with the Chinese Scholar’s Garden—a tranquil space with koi ponds and intricate stone pathways, perfect for snapping some zen Instagram shots. The Tuscan Garden is another must-see. Beyond the gardens, the cultural center hosts art exhibits, outdoor performances, and community events. I came across one musician playing the ancient instrument from his culture on the day of my visit.
Pro tip: Arrive early to explore at your own pace, and don't forget to pack a picnic to enjoy by the pond. It's also super easy to get there by taking the Staten Island Ferry, so you can enjoy a scenic ride on your way. This is definitely an underrated oasis worth checking out!
The ticket of the Chinese Garden is separate, $5 per person, but really worth it, immersive enough to bring you directly to ancient China
