Whether you’re in D.C. for a day, a weekend, or a month, there are so many things to do in the nation’s capital! I’m originally from the DMV area (ish) so going to D.C. has always been exciting and a great pastime when we hosted guests.
Below are all of the slides grouped by category!
Activities:
📍 Planet Word
Super cute pay-what-you-want linguistics museum with suggested donation of $15! They’re open M, W-F from 10AM to 5PM and S-Su from 10AM to 6PM (closed on Tu)!
📍 Renwick Gallery
Contemporary art exhibit with free admission! Open every day of the year except for Christmas Day from 10AM to 5:30PM! The photo uploaded here is one of the larger pieces on the second floor.
📍 Artechouse
Modern, immersive art with science facts scattered throughout the space! Currently closed for renovations in 2025, but definitely check them out when they’ve reopened! In the meantime, check out their other locations like NYC. The photo uploaded here is of one of the immersive walls, which makes you feel like you’re floating through space!
📍 National Air and Space Museum
I think the name says it all, but it’s an amazing exhibit filled with everything a nerdy heart could desire. There were also movie screenings regarding space shuttles, which was SO cool to watch! It felt like the best Wikipedia-esque info dump on spacecrafts! Tickets are free but are required for time-based entry. Open every day of the year except for Christmas Day from 10AM to 5:30PM!
📍 The Anthem
If you’re into music, then you HAVE to check out The Anthem! It’s a huge indoor venue located on The Wharf, and is surrounded by bougie and hip restaurants! I personally recommend that you grab some food from the Falafel Inc. food truck before going in… 🥙 Artist selections rotate just about every day—checkout their website to see who’s performing!
I’m out of characters, but here are my food recs:
📍 Tatte Bakery
📍 Tipsy Scoop
📍 Purple Patch
📍 Doro Soul Food (not pictured)

went here for the first time! was super excited but my experience was a little disappointing. the exhibits were very creative and thoughtful but a good amount of them were malfunctioning. it’s positioned as a “karaoke” museum, meaning that exhibit features can be triggered by one’s voice, but there were at least three exhibits that i explored that couldn’t detect my voice, despite me speaking at a conversation-level volume. i also think the design of the museum could be a little more intuitive, but overall i recommend this experience if you love books and language. ...More
