Strolling south Philly close to South Street is incredibly enjoyable if you appreciate brownstone houses and Georgian architecture. There are many restored historic homes in this neighborhood that it makes for an enjoyable time even just to stroll about.
Within this neighborhood, there are also a number of restaurants on block corners and so also many places to have a little break as you explore.
Mr.Rabbit in particular is a a wonderful coffee shop (with outdoor seating for the Summer) and some of the most delicious coffee I think that I have tried. They use beehive beans and the staff are so friendly inside they even let me fill a jar of bean to purchase (they were out of stock of the beans I wanted). They are dog friendly and co-work friendly. They make fresh produce and their own syrups for the coffee from scratch (I highly recommend the Peppermint Syrup). There are also delicious baked goods- I highly recommend the Apple Bundt cake or their signature pizza.
