What: Joe’s Home of The Soup Dumplings - great Shanghai cuisine with the soup dumplings being their speciality
Where: 48th street between Madison and 5th Ave
Perfect for: a pre Broadway dinner or when you’ve forgotten to make reservations somewhere. The place is pretty large so they often have room for walk ins.
Definitely order: the soup dumplings! Pork was definitely my favorite. We also loved the general tsos and have tried a few of the fried rices.
The staff is also soooo nice and attentive and as a bonus you get to watch the staff make the dumplings if you sit at the bar!
Their prices are great, the food is delicious, and it’s a nice casual environment before heading to your next broadway show!...More

For someone with allergies to beef and pork, finding chicken soup dumplings in New York City can be very challenging. Most soup dumplings are made with pork filling.
However, Joe's home turns out to be the best spot for those seeking only chicken dumplings....More

Joe's is a nice clean, casual Chinese restaurant in Midtown -- refreshing when there are mostly mixed dining options in the area. This restaurant was opened by the son of the founder of Joe's Shanghai (also delicious). As the name implies, you have to order the pork soup dumplings! Dumpling skins are a bit on the thicker side, but the broth is delicious and they come out piping hot. For dinner, we also ordered the spicy cold cucumber salad, sesame cold noodles, and lion's head pork meatballs. The other dishes were fine, nothing standout. Next time, 1 would opt for another order of soup dumplings and other Shanghainese dishes instead....More
