This beautiful garden and museum located in Northwest DC has many gardens and a greenhouse on its property to explore. The estate belonged to Marjorie Merriweather Post, a pioneering American businesswoman and heiress. She transformed Postum Cereal Company into General Foods, becoming one of the wealthiest women of the 20th century. Her estate, now a museum, reflects her passion for Russian imperial art, French decorative arts, and gracious living.
There are 13 acres to explore on the property, with different garden and botanical styles. The first picture is of the French Parterre, a European-style garden, with a sparkling pool, ivory covered walls, and a statue of Diana, goddess of the hunt. The second picture is of the Greenhouse, housing an extensive collection of orchids, which were Marjorie Merriweather Post’s favorite flower. The third picture is of the Putting Green. The last picture is of the Japanese-style Garden, with stone lanterns, pagodas, and statues with storied significance.
Walking around the estate was really tranquil, and it was a beautiful outing. I highly recommend checking it out this summer.
