This spaghetti-looking 🍝 Japanese creation popped up on my insta feed & I fell for the hype!! Silky paste potato parfait @ Hello Yam looked like it might be delicious so I succumbed to my intrigue. I didn’t realize it would be an outrageous $16?!!?! I guess they use some very fancy potatoes ha (although the guy working there said the purple ones are not the beniharuka potatoes 🍠🇯🇵 mentioned in the sign in the 2nd picture… those are used only for the “toasts”… so… 😂🤔)
It was… interesting!? The guy had a cool machine to dispense the potato (forgot to capture live oops). The flavor was fine but I didn’t love the texture - felt chalky + stringey at the same time. The ice cream & cornflakes served underneath 🍦 were way too sweet for me. Not pleased I spent $$ on this but learned (/remembered!) not to fall for the insta hype 😂

Lately I’ve been into two things:
✔️Uniquely flavored warm drinks
✔️Black sesame flavored items
I was already in the East Village for an art exhibition, so I was looking up what was nearby. I was excited to see “Hello, Yam!” was there, because I’ve been meaning to try their black sesame latte.
I was happy with my purchase! You could certainly taste the black sesame without it being overpowering. I recommend it!
The main products that “Hello, Yam!” sells are sweet potato treats (hence the name of the shop), which I’ll definitely be trying another time....More
