I decided to go to the Goodwill Outlets in Queens the other day. When I initially got there, I was underwhelmed because it seemed very empty. The vibe was very relaxed but there were a bunch of people huddled on the edges of the room with shopping carts which confused me. After about 20 mins of me digging through the scraps of what was there, I was hurried off the floor into a corral of people. Everyone with carts lined up in front of them and got ready for the impending chaos. The staff quickly filled the floor with so many new bins. They let everyone place themselves in front of a bin but we were not allowed to touch anything until they were ready for us to. They went over the rules of the facility and then let all start to dig. It was an absolutely wild experience. People were ripping through the bins, flipping bundles of clothes to try and find the things with value. Suddenly, this place that I though was dull a half hour ago was electric and hectic and not for the faint of heart. This is definitely an experience for the skilled and extroverted thrifter. Where I wasn't able to take any photos within the facility, I was able to come out with a full bag of clothes (probably around 15 pieces) as well as a full bag of DVDs (12 pieces consisting of multiple box sets) for a total of $25. Because everything at the outlet is price per pound, you're able to get so much for a much lower price. They do have bags of various sized bags for purchase in case you need. Overall, if you're able to handle the experience, it is a total steal! I don't think this is something I would go back to for a few months just so I can decompress, but when I have that good goodwill itch, I'll definitely return....More
