There’s still time to catch the last three free performances of Hamlet from EastLine Theatre. Every summer since 2020 they do a traveling “Shakespeare in park” series across various locations on Long Island. I was able to watch at Clark Botanic Garden surrounded by the beautiful flora and fauna along with the sound of the birds and babbling brooks. You do have to bring your own seating (lawn chairs or picnic blankets) and be mindful of how close you sit since there are no microphones. EastLine is my favorite theatre company on Long Island. In an area where a lot of theatre is musicals, family shows, and golden age plays (which aren’t bad, but can get repetitive), EastLine focuses on innovative creativity, unconventional variety, and highlighting local and marginalized playwrights (including but not limited to BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, women, Jewish, and disabled voices). They also foster community through events like book club and fundraisers. During the regular season (school year) they put on shows usually in Westbury or Lindenhurst at affordable prices. It’s been quite a few years since I performed with them, but I still enjoy being part of the audience, and I would encourage any actors of any age, experience level, and identity to audition for them! ...More
