On weekends, my local itinerary is usually all on Montague St these days – a quick 50 min workout at Barry’s, a croissant at L'Appartement 4F, a hello to the cats at the Brooklyn Cat Cafe, and then some quiet time at Books are Magic (I probably need to do a post for all of my fave Montague St third places!)
Books are Magic holds a special place in my heart because their recommendations took me out of my reading rut! When I first moved to Brooklyn, I stopped in originally because I saw the Inciardi Prints vending machine in the window, but have come back again and again because the staff picks are so accurate and rotate often. You can also let a staff member know what kind of book vibe you’re looking for and they usually have a book for you!
The store also hosts lots of free events; some are walk-in and others require RSVP: https://www.booksaremagic.net/events ...More

I always love events at Books Are Magic! This one was a book launch for Olivia Gatwood’s new book “Whoever You Are, Honey”. They typically have 1 hour events with the first half being an interview style conversation and then the second half open to questions from the audience.
It can be hard to see if you’re sitting more than a few rows back since all the seats are lined up, but they have microphones and speakers so it’s easy to hear what everyone is saying.
The authors stick around after to sign books and personalize them which always feels more special. The “ticket” was $35 but included the hardcover book. You don’t have to buy the book, so you can also get $10 “tickets” which is essentially a gift card to the store. I highly recommend checking out this great store and attending a book launch event!
The Montague location is also very close to the Brooklyn Promenade which is worth stopping by to see the Manhattan skyline especially around sunset! ...More

Spent another day at the bookstore! Truly enjoy the ambiance at Books are Magic. It's a cozy, not too large store, which can get slightly packed during the weekends. But the vast range of books and the staff's insightful book reviews and comments is something I really cherish.
They host numerous events frequently and invite renowned authors for book readings, so I highly suggest it to all my bookworm friends.
Here is a link to check out for the ongoing events and book reads!

Books Are Magic in Brooklyn is a charming, vibrant independent bookshop that’s become a beloved staple in the neighborhood. The space itself is beautifully decorated, with a warm, welcoming atmosphere that invites you to linger and explore. The shop has a strong focus on contemporary fiction, so if you're into modern storytelling, this is the place to be.
One of the unique features of the shop is its Inciardi art print machine, which adds an extra layer of magic to the experience. For just $1, you can grab a limited-edition print—such a fun and affordable way to take home a piece of art from the store.
