The Chinese canto-mando pop cocktail bar 929 in LIC, Queens shut down earlier this month, being replaced with a Japanese pop vinyl bar called 56709. It officially opened this week and my friend and I went to their opening night.
I was pretty bummed out at first since I quite enjoyed the concept of 929 but I was not disappointed at all once I visited the new 56709 (tho a less catchy name).
The interior has not changed much from 929, with the biggest decor change being the lighting from red to a blue-purple theme.
I loved the new menu concept - it has anime and Japanese music themed cocktails. I got the Usagi drink, which is named after Usagi from sailor moon 🌙 . I also really enjoyed their new cold appetizers. Will come back to try more drinks (I saw one named pika pika ⚡️that I am excited to try next time). ...More

where 929 LIC used to be is now 56709. new brand, new decor, new cocktails, new food items, but same old charm! still some of the nicest workers and best drinks in the city. definitely going back to try every drink....More
